If you are very, very fortunate, every once in a great while you will come across someone who, for reasons that cannot be explained, seem to have a certain spark about them. They have no hidden hand. They give and ask for nothing in return. Their friendship is boundless and totally unconditional. They are modest and honorable and you know that whenever you are with them, you are in the presence of someone truly remarkable. That is precisely the way that my wife, Mary Lib, and I felt when we were with Nan.
We know that there are probably no truly, consoling words that we can offer to Nan's family at a time like this. We therfore hope that the knowledge that Nan's many, many friends are with all them will provide some consolation. Sometimes just knowing that you are not alone helps. Please accept our deepest sympathy.
Sincerely,
REX and MARY LIB TOMB

My deepest symphathy |
October 16, 2008 |
Chris,
I once read, "only great men face great challenges". I can't even begin to understand the challenge this loss will present. But I do know you are a great man and God will bring you the strength, peace, and courage you need to face this next challenge in your life. Please accept my deepest symphathy.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. It was - and still is - such a shock to learn of Nan's death earlier this week. Nan was such a presence in our building. Someone who could always be counted on. It will be, however, her recent tutoring work with Jorge that will be my lasting memory of her. For the past several weeks Nan and Jorge would be working together on a computer right outside my office. The two of them got along so well. Nan's compassion and can-do spirit really seemed to lift Jorge every day. I'll be thinking of the Irick family during these difficult times for all of you.

Fresh in my Memory |
October 16, 2008 |
I was attending Washington Lee two years ago, for my entire freshman year the first half of my sohpomore year. I've been attending Langston since, but I remember my W-L days very well. I knew Kate, Connor, and Alex fairly well. I remember Mrs. Irick extremely well, and the impact she had on students and staff alike. I remember her not just as a substitute but as a person. My good friend Billy is the Irick's neighbor and the both of us are just as bewildered as I'm sure the rest of us are.
I'm shocked beyond words.
Kate, especially, I'm sorry for the loss. She's still with us on some level, a more important level than the physical.

My Condolences |

My deepest sympathies go out to the Irick family. Ms. Irick was an amazing person, and the smile that she gave all those she met reflected that. I can't even begin to imagine what the Irick family must be going through. All those who had the honor to know Ms. Irick must now feel the pain of her absence. We can only hope that she is in a better place. She will be remembered.
